So who's going skiing this weekend for the extended season?  Planning to be there Sunday on my way to VT for a biz trip...hows things holding up on the mtn?  Any of you local guys been over there this week for a skin?  Weather not looking too promising for the weekend at the moment...and cold-ish...hopefully that changes.

I'm using the Thursday strategy hoping for Saturday. Might be some sun?

Might be a little bit rainy according to my phone. Looks to me like killington might be a better bet on Sunday

She def took a big hit the last couple days. It looks like spring now.  Still amazing coverage for last week of April though.

Looking for more of a warmth+deck+beers don't care so much about quality of skiing surface as long as it isn't frozen solid...want to end the season on a spring-like day and not in the 30s lol

Any insider news on how Whiteface will be skiing on Saturday?

We're going to roll the dice and get to the mountain early to beat the weather which looks to be closing in late in the day.

The higher summits forecast for Friday night is high 30s and some rain showers plus with on and off rain Saturday morning I’m thinking it will be sloppy Saturday.  I prefer it to freeze overnight and then thaw which I think is better spring skiing.

I’m going to play golf Saturday and maybe ski Sunday or not depending on weather.

Surprisingly good coverage down low.  Mountain Run looks pretty depressing.  Wilderness looks better.  Excelsior is probably fine.  Visibility low up top and I can't see Skyward.  They could probably open next Saturday if Aaron felt like it.

Skyward, April 28th, 2018.

No shovel brigade and wall to wall below the headwall.

Unreal.

I love being wrong in this case.  There was way more snow up there than I thought and Skyward will be skiable for 2-3 weeks if you're willing to hike.

For next weekend it's planned to be Saturday only to break the closing date record.  If they can somehow piece Follies together they could run just Facelift and Summit.  Excelsior has plenty of snow but I don't see them wanting to spend the extra bucks in labor to run 3 lifts in May.  Mountain Run area is definitely finished.  Barely made it through today.

Freaking amazing day and I almost bailed.  No pictures because it was too wet for me to have my phone. Opened my camp yesterday and was looking at a 3.75 hour drive to Whiteface this morning.  When I got up the pup who is always jonesing for a first swim by 6:30 saw the two foot breakers and 50 mph winds and went back to bed.  I looked at the forecast and it said 40 degrees and calm wind in Saranac Lake...I'm going
I drove through everything and rode up the face chair in rain...and then it changed..oh my, my last ORDA day is going to be a powder day...well sort of...Fat Guy Powder, Junk Snow, Cream Cheese...what ever you want to call it, today was a blast.  My favorite run was Upper to lower sky but the lift was tough to handle too many times in a row.  Full on Winter.  When you wanted to warm up the Little WF chair to mid was awesome.  Parkway, Mountain and Wilderness all were ripe for freshies. and then I rode further and Essex and Upper Northway also fantastic with 4" plus by closing.  There is a lot of snow on the trails but some of the connectors are hurting...but I have the skis to make it thru next weekend

My son and I drove up from Queensbury today - nonstop rain all the way up, and my son was wondering if we were out of our minds.

He was excited though once he saw how empty it was, and was glad to try and reconquer the mountain after it concussed him two winters back, sending us to Saranac Hospital for a cat scan.

How happy were we when the rain turned to snow by the top of the face lift, and we spent 4 hours going back and forth between the two Upper mountains.  Mountain Run was definitely the chair to get warmer on after a few trips to the summit with wind whipping snow in our faces.

Follies to Victoria was our fave - also had fun on Wilderness and Mountain Run.  My son was a little intimidated by the bumps at the top of Skyward so we only did one of those.  Biggest challenge was the fresh snow hiding rocks and dirt, but we came through unscathed and kept shaking our heads saying “April 29!!!!”.

Nice work ORDA - one for the books.  I especially appreciated the staff person looking up our Gore frequent skier cards - I had removed them from my wallet last week thinking the season was done!

Whiteface Conditions report for 4/30 is 6 inches.  Sounds like lifts will be running in early May.

"MORE INFO COMING SOON
Believe it or not we picked up six inches of freshies to top off the trails for this past weekend's skiers and riders—bringing our season total to a whopping 228 inches! Stay tuned here for the most updated info on this season's schedule; we'll be posting shortly about this upcoming weekend."
