I'm at Killington. Total Gully washer last night and still pouring rain this morning. Conditions weren't great to begin with, but they're deteriorating fast. We'll be lucky to have the Triple with stair walk by the end of today.

Hunter is going to need to start from scratch or close to it on snowmaking.  They will most likely not be open this weekend.  Killington may need to go back to using the peak stairway.  Everyone else is in danger of closing, or already has.  Hunter will probably be WROD all of Christmas.

I think that places who already have snow will make some more this weekend.  Those who aren't open already will not.

My normal standard for Christmas terrain is all lifts by 12/26.  That obviously doesn't apply this year and on the ec, places will be lucky to have any lifts open by then.

Mountain Creek should reopen their downhill MTB park and allow those with ski passes to access the lift for free.  Heck, they could probably get a turnout at the waterpark if they opened it.

Wait... so are you saying weather is a factor in snowmaking?

Yes, weather is a factor, I never said it wasn't.  Capacity also is a factor, and if you can't open all your lifts by 12/26 in all but the worst of the worst years (06-07, 11-12, this year), your capacity sucks and needs an upgrade.

Sno, all the capacity and money in the world doesn't help when the skies open and it pisses 2" of liquid on 12/24. It's the east, it happens with regularity, and you're 100% by xmas doesn't fly in a world where there's gravity.

Harv,
Those maps represent a probability of above or bellow avg temp..
So if your avg temp was 32 and you hit 35 , you would be in the dark red..
