I just don't think anyone knows how big this will get.

Watching some footage from CNN inside two ERs downstate (NY).

Almost all of the people who die suffocate.  The lungs fill up and are barely working, the only real treatment is to put them on a ventilator and hope that buys them time to fight it on their own.  As of yet there are no drugs or treatments.

From this story it does seem like the two hospitals featured at this moment have just enough ventilators to handle the load.

Fingers crossed.

Petition to separate upstate from NYC, what do you folks make of this? My cuz posted on Facebook.

I would hope this never happens. NY is so amazing, I would hate to see it split in two.  Neither half would be as cool.

I don't think it would happen. When was the last time state lines were redrawn in the US?

And when was the last time a petition really had an effect on something like this? :D

Are we not doing politics in here? I’ve remained pretty neutral on political stuff but there’s some shit right now I just can’t get past. I don’t like feeling emotional over politics but right now it’s like, we have to.

Anyone else feeling like this?

It's sad but true.  NY Gov. said yesterday that only about 20% of people that get put on a vent for CV survive.  Seemed very low to me so I contacted a medical person in metro NYC that we know that works at a hospital ICU and they said that they are seeing a 15-20% survival rate for CV vent cases.  It would seem that CV is mostly causing death to people that were not long for this world to begin with.  Doesn't make it any less tragic.

I sprinkle a dash or two into the meme thread. That way it’s not all Netflix and Zoom and toilet paper jokes.

Best thing you can do is take care of your lungs.  Exercise, no smoking or vaping.

Interesting thing came out in the Govs presser today...

He's going to ask the prez to allow him to put Covid patients at Javit which was originally designatedfor non-Covid.

Unanticipated side effect, there are almost no non-Covid patients in the ERs now.  Car accidents and crime have dropped to near zero.

How this possible

"Four other tigers and three lions at the zoo developed a cough, and some were even wheezing. But Nadia is the only animal who tested positive for COVID-19. Zoo officials believe she got it from an asymptomatic worker."

Probably a lot of genuinely sick, non-covid patients who should be going to a doctor or ER are not seeking help at all. Hopefully we don’t have too many strokes, infections, heart disease or who knows what going untreated for too long.

A lot of things are just random luck, bro. Good or bad. Don’t drive yourself nuts trying to figure it out.

My wise grandmother used to love to watch Crossfire on tv when there were few channels. To exercise that freedom now ya got to click back and forth or choose different "social" media to follow to get the different spins. Being outside digging in the yard today, I appreciated the tweets of the local feathered friends. Just saying.
