Re: Coronavirus

JTG4eva!
Widespread test center closures (at the discretion of test centers, not a College Board decision) for tomorrow’s SAT exam.  My son’s center (Ketcham HS) is closed.

My wife had a Superintendents Conference Day today.  Beacon City School District shutting down for the next two weeks.  Teachers sending work packets home to students.

My company (we employ over 7,000 people in close to 200 offices across the country) keeping offices open, but allowing work from home (case by case) for those who feel uncomfortable coming into the office.

Grand Central Terminal a relative ghost town.  Train station parking lot has been pretty empty this week.

Schools closed here too.  Kids are so excited.

I don't equate buying toilet paper with panicking.

Cornell is postponing classes as of 5 pm today.  Classes will resume online on April 6. Staff and faculty are to work remotely as much as possible after March 20.

I will need more TP because I will be at home more.  :p

The reason it looks like a crazy run on TP is that there are no substitute products. People stocking up on food have hundreds of products that are adequate substitutes for one another if they can’t get exactly what they need.

As a hunter I'd say that there are substitute products for TP:

Under britches
socks
handkerchief
leaves

Just make sure you use the right leaves. The wrong leaves can bite you.

As a canoe tripper, I can add to that list:

- nicely sized smooth rocks (then heave into the bushes)
- damp moss (very nice). Sphagnum is primo. Dry moss is too crumbly
- snow works well if it is the right consistency. Packable corn is ideal.

Perhaps ironically, it turns out that toilet paper was invented in China:

Jesus - I didn’t say there aren’t other things you can wipe your ass with. I said there aren’t substitute products for TP in the stores. There’s basically one product sold for purpose vs hundreds or thousands of food items. So some minor or moderate stockpiling of goods has the appearance of a major panic for TP.

Except in Virgil. Where you regularly wipe with your underwear apparently.

Camp, as I recall you been shoot’n tree rats, bet they’d make a good substitute. Another reason not to support gun restrictions.

Yes, the options for alternate bung hole wiping are endless.

This is pretty despicable. It would be a shame if an angry mob stormed his house and beat his greedy selfish ass.
