The gondola broke down again this morning, but it started again around noon or earlier.  All in all, a pretty good.

What is up with the Gondola?  I was stuck on it for over three hours in late December and it seems like every day, its  a crapshoot whether or not its going to run.  Even with the Gondola down today, it took them over an hour to open the Adirondack Express.  WTF???  On a powder day???  No access to the upper mountain or Topridge???  Once they finally got the Gondola running at about 10:00 am they promptly closed down the AE II causing the massive lift line in the picture.  Again, what were they thinking?  I always make sure that I  pee before I get on the Gondola since frankly, I don't trust it.  It seems to me that the Gondola has major problems that the mountain management is not admitting.  I love Gore and have been a Season's Pass holder for over 30 years and don't usually complain, but this seems ridiculous!

I heard they "upgraded" a control panel for the gondola to make it more efficient but left the rest of the system unchanged.  This is causing the system to trip faults every day which requires a long "reboot".  Not sure why they can't go back to the old control panel, don't remember any major issues in years past... Similar issues with the new snow guns retrofitted on an old snow making system.  These upgrades become big downgrades

Looking at the forecast and it's making me sick.  I can't believe its going to rain on top of all this amazing snow.

What a mess.

Same. Adding insult to injury was the extreme cold Monday which prevented many from spinning lifts.

My work had off and for once I could actually take the holiday and of course Mother Nature did not cooperate. I know there were many others who were in the same boat. Makes these weather swings all the more frustrating.

The mountain skied fantastic today.  I pulled mindlock on the Burnt Ridge Chair skiing Barkeater, Boreas, and Sagamore, over and over again all day long.  They finally got Sagamore and Echo back on track.  The conditions were soft and there was nobody there.  I found no reason to go elsewhere since I don't trust the gondola (is did run fine today) and all of the runs off the Burnt Ridge chair were awesome.  I suspect that the rest of the mountain skied awesome as well.  All was good until about 3:00pm when the freezing rain came in and ruined what had been another awesome powder day.  The drive home to Saratoga wasn't bad even though it was raining and 25 degrees.  Once I got home and stepped out of my car, I almost did a faceplant due to the ice.  I had all I could do to reach the front door!!!  Why does it seem to always rain just as the mountain reaches epic conditions?

The Gore Gondola is 20 years old - only 15 more years to go before it is replaced.

Gore was fun today despite that it seemed colder than it was.   No wind.   Decent grooming.   Top was done early as the steeper it was the quicker it was skied off.  Rumor looked enticing but after seeing at least one person slide all the way down losing skis and gaining speed that risk outweighed the rewards.

So a couple laps on lies were good.   After warming up in base lodge, which was very busy all day btw,  over to Sags for four fast carvable sprints.   Run of the day for sure.  At one point about 11am looked up and down Sags and saw no one.   Did have to wait 15 seconds once for that chair.

Around down hedges up slooooow north quad then out.  Most of front side stayed ok.   Base in great shape all over.

Re: Gore Conditions

Better than I was expecting on Saturday, never waited at a lift line longer than 30 seconds and the mountain was fast and firm with varying amounts of sugar snow depending on trail.  Few observations, the snow made from the new electronic snow guns is awful, not sure what is going on but that new snow from those guns made those trails worst than the rain.  The snow from the traditional guns on uncas was great.  Sagamore, lies, wild air skied well.  Twister had the new snow from the orange guns and was not good.  Decently snowy week upcoming should reopen the glades.  Plenty of snow in the woods just the ice crust on the snow form the rain needs to get worked out.

Today was amazing.  Easily 6" on my truck when I was done and I am sure there is more up top.  Crazy wind in places...It almost blew you back up the hill on topridge but it was worth enduring.  Rumor great, Lies was actually my worst run of the day and i even enjoyed that.  Trees up high were fantastic, down low were a bit crunchy.  Sagamore Great!  I'll take an unexpected powder day after being sick all week

Re: Gore Conditions

It was great! Unfortunately the 6+" surprise resulted in one nasty drive over from Old Forge (0 plowing of rt 28 most of the way)...so got there at 11 instead of 930 as planned...but even so I'll take it! Started and stayed up top all day since it was so good. Sides of pretty much everything was loaded. Rumor was great. Lies too.

Pick was Straightbrook glades and under the chair. The great zipper bumps have returned, and were very skiable.

On the drive home looked like Oak and Speculator got crushed. Maybe as much as 12" from today.

I skied Gore as well, got there at opening and skied till the end. The snow was light and kept filling in, hardly anybody was there. Rumor and Lies were great all day, the glades were spectacular.
