Sounds like it may be worth a day trip tomorrow. I’m used to WF on holiday weekends, when Sunday crowds are def lower than Sat crowds......not that holiday Sat crowds there are really that bad there. Same hold true for Gore?

Not bad really. There were a lot of people but they all stuck to the lower mountain mainly. Up top was very manageable I thought.
Parking was packed, but I got there at 8:20 and got a spot close to the main lot. |

It never rained above a certain point... maybe 2500 or 3000? I just skied our crust here at 1900 and it was pretty nice. Could certainly turn in it.

Not bad today. Tahawus, Straight Brook glades ok. Lies groomed. Should start softening up.

Presidents weekend is kinda like going to the County Fair....you just see a lot of odd things and stuff happens that you usually never see on Mountain.
1. Going down headwall of Echo and I see a pair of skis staked into the snow, a few folks drop their skis on trail at bottom of headwall and are climbing up. Next to the staked in skis I see a guy messing with the racer fence. Looking closer I see a woman trying to crawl underneath it back onto the trail. 2. While I'm watching the fence event take place, I see a kid belly sliding, face first with no skis on, all the way to the bottom of the headwall. Well executed slide, but I'm baffled as I have no idea where the kids skis are. (Perhaps the woman crawling out of the fence still had hers on and the ones staked into the snow belonged to the kid?) 3. I turn around and there is a pack of Jerry's walking off the headwall. Not really a big deal, I get it, probably in too deep for their experience level. It just seemed like strange icing on the Echo cake. 4. I'm getting onto the BRQ with my Monoski on and the liftie hits the stop button and shuts down the lift. I look at her and I'm like, ugh, whats going on? She looks at me and kinda cranky tells me to pop my binding. I'm like ummm....what do you mean? She says, you can't get on the lift with that board on and both feet in the bindings. I said, what do you mean? Karen says...It's a Monoski....she's like....whats that? I can't start the lift until you pop it. I say...well, if I pop it and the other binding releases this things going to fall onto the trail and kill someone. I just get a look of confusion.....so I tell her, look, I've been skiing here on this for at least 5 years and no one's ever asked me to do this...it will be fine....She reluctantly started the lift again....Sorry if I held anyone up. Other than that...the snow was great.....amazing runs, carving nice turns on the Mono....looking forward to some overnight POW. |
We watched a kid slide almost the length of Lies. Lots of people walking under the rope once they shut down the Rumor headwall.....in their ski boots.....to get a better picture. That didn’t seem like a good idea, and the patroller at the top of the headwall didn’t seem amused.
Conditions were great today, not even anything I would say got skied off. Sure, a few firm and fast spots, but mostly just carveable, with a little crust on the natural ungroomed down low. The glades we got to all skied well. Barkeater, Abenaki, Dark Side, Pinebrook, MacIntyre. Twister glades were a bit firm. High Pines and Double Barrel skied well. Abenaki

Hey Harv where did you ski today? Gore was really nice today. I did one run down Quicksilver early and then b-lined it to Burnt Ridge. All woods that were open and one grey area were very nice. I think they got quite a bit more than the 2" they are reporting on the website. Tahawus Glade very nice and soft. Dark side Glade skied in but still skiing nice...Shaman was yelling at me from the lift for skiing his line Double Barrel to lower was fun but they had double barrel under the lift closed with the one closer to Rumor open...strange since the other side holds the snow better...but it was nice. Best run of the day by far...Upper Open Pit to some woods, cross Headwaters then some more woods. The mountain is skiing really great right now and every trail SHOULD be open. Today's snow just made it that much better!

Concur mountain was skiing great today. Burnt Ridge, Darkside, summit woods all skiied great. Topridge, Echo, Sagamore, Chatty, Hawkeye, and Lies early were also very nice.
Ended up meeting up with a fellow forum member (TheGreatAbyss) and his wife and made quite a few runs with them. Was great to ski with them as always! Went in with low expectations this weekend due to Friday's Wx. They were far exceeded both at Gore and WF. One of my best weekends of the season so far. |
For Tuesday, great conditions and light crowds. Tough to beat that combination.

Skied Gore on Friday and thought the conditions were really good. Pretty good crowd, especially with races being run on Echo, but was never too crowded on the slopes. Hawkeye, Open Pit, and Lower Darby were my favorite runs of the day.

Agreed that Gore was great yesterday. Rumor was open from the cutoff under SB chair and was ungroomed. The snow/sleet that fell Wednesday/Thursday was nice enough to get a good edge and carve up. Did Chatiemac, Rumor x3, Lies, then Dark Side Glades before bombing Twister to Burnt Ridge. By that time the sun was coming out and the snow was getting a bit smooth. Pleasantly surprised how well the glades were over there and ended up doing Abenaki, Bark Eater, and Boreas two times each. What a surprisingly good day.

Always nice to get a day that exceeds expectations!

The mountain was skiing good yesterday. A few slick spots but overall, was a lot of fun, and I was on my Mono which doesn’t like hard pack at all. Excellent runs on Uncas and Topridge. Best run was Powder Pass to Northstar. Powder Pass was nice packed powder and Northstar was still soft chop, skied great.
Right now, at 1,600 feet it’s freezing rain, trees getting glazed. This after sleet pellets early in morning. Will likely snow shoe this afternoon if rain stops. My cardinal rule of skiing.....never ski in the rain.... |
Concur with MikePom conditions were pretty good yesterday. Rumor at opening was GREAT. Got 5 laps in before the headwall got skied off, but bottom held great snow all day. Lies was pretty good early. Hawkeye and Chatemac stayed good most of the day. Topridge was also a pick run.
Woods held up well from last week, except for off of Burnt Ridge, which were still skiable but very firm. My only Gore gripe of the day was why was Darkside closed? Patrol was on it adjusting the obstacle markers, but never opened it. I would have poached, but saw Patrol yelling at a couple poachers from the High Peaks chair so didn't risk it. The snow in Darby woods was great, so couldn't have been due to the conditions. |

I am not skiing today but have had some really nice days in the rain. Hopefully we don't lose much today. I saw you on the northside yesterday. That mono must be a blast in powder and crud(fat guy powder to me). My picks of the day yesterday were Tahawus Glade, Dark Side Glade and 46er. I think Shaman and I were the only ones there in the morning, 46er got even better the more we skied it. Empty chairs and light trail crowds at both Burnt Ridge and Ski Bowl all morning. I went up top at lunch time and they had just opened Dark Side Glade.
