I think a lot of this depends on where you place yourself on the mountain. Gore is a very large mountain and conditions vary greatly on where you're skiing.
Sagamore started out good but on the lower steeps was scraped down quite a bit. Echo had been tilled up good, probably for the racers and skied great to the Twister cut off. We didn't make it to the upper mountain. I noted that the zone just below the Saddle took on heavy freezing rain and ice, the trees were still coated and you could feel that influence on the snow. Harvey where were you skiing today? We're heading back up tomorrow in search of some edge able snow. FYI....light snow coming down in Johnsburg but I don't anticipate significant accumulation. |
ROTD Topridge earlier. Lies good early rumor by 930 but not over impresssd. Groomed so it’s not a double D but loose granular. Trees on top of Straight Brook Quad are so cool. Left side pines powder of branches while right side large pines have huge icicles on them. So close and different.
People read the marketing words in groomed up top as that quad busy quickly. Hullabaloo was good all the way to ski bowl. Hudson trail fun and the Oak Ridge and Moxam were excellent. Earlier comments on Echo and Sag are dead on not impressed. Spent some time watching the kids on jumps Huge jumps at the event on Wild Air. Lunch at Izzy’s always fantastic before snowshoe into S Ponds wilderness towards Second Pond to get some cardio. Definitely back tomorrow. Twenty person wait at BRQ 12 person at AE2. Trails a bit busier but no lines. Worst was morning hours at SB quad. They didn’t get the 18” this week that the SW adks received thanks to Ontario but mt in very good shape. Comments here on woods being less then optimal dead on. They were closed and empty foe a reason. |

frk you are an officer and a gentleman. Go ahead say it: Harv you are full of shit. Maybe BRLKED will back me up. Or, how is this instead: If you could find low angle stuff that was untracked it was quite fun. We found some. The ice was surely lurking, I don't dispute it. But the softness of the loose snow made up for it. And always remember Harvey's Disclaimer.

A few years ago I heard a father in the lodge extolling the fantastic conditions off of straightbrook chair. He was from out of state. I had skied up top that day and found it to be crushed ice on ice. On the other hand, many times after an insane powder day, I've heard people complaining about the terrible conditions. Lots of times your perspective is influenced by the good company you keep. I think that it is no coincidence that my best ski days coincide skiing with friends. And, gore is a big mountain where conditions can range from awful to great depending on your location. Often the great skiing is the area that you decided not to try that day. As a long time gore skier, I usually know where to find good skiing but I still get skunked sometimes.

Was OK today. Only skied groomers on account of the knowledge what lurked underneath in the woods. Was pretty skied off up top, but found some good snow on the sides of Chati, Lies, Open Pit and Lower Darby. Best skiing was Showcase. Few icy patches, but very carveable and fun. Lower mountain lower angle groomers were definitely better than steeper ones.

Agree. Twister and echo good. Runs like moxam and oak ridge and Tahawas good too. Woods a tad softer than yesterday but not ready for prime time

Sorry Harvey just saw this, That 2 inches of fluff last night groomed up nicely at Garnet Hill 50k of superb track and skate. Our day Saturday was above expectation, if you don't go you don't know!

I must have skied a different mountain. I thought today skied better than yesterday...The steeps in the woods that had been skied had packed snow right where you had to turn...it wasn't there yesterday. Early groomers up top were fantastic with just a tiny powder layer. My second run was down Topridge and it was insane. But two days in a row my favorite run was Hudson. It was a little more beat up than yesterday but still fun. The little bit of snow that fell really helped and if we get at least the same overnight, tomorrow will be awesome. It looks like at least a morning for me tomorrow...but my daughter says I am going to back and forth this a hundred times today exceeded my expectations

Gore was way better than I expected today. All groomed and edible. Lower Darby was soft and nice. Most glades were closed but Barkeater was the best run of the day.

Copperhead... you posted four identical topics. I deleted the one that was posted loose in the Conditions forum, it makes no sense there. I moved one of them to this thread, since it's more likely someone who skis Gore my be able to help. I left the one in the OT.
People will see your post, no need for four of them. Thanks.

Hey Harv, If you didn't go today you wouldn't know. there was no one there. Somehow the snow was the best of the last three days and even the steep woods had enough cover to hold on that "base" I was supposed to stop skiing and go to work around noon...I didn't
