Right now, at 1,600 feet it’s freezing rain, trees getting glazed.  This after sleet pellets early in morning.  Will likely snow shoe this afternoon if rain stops.  My cardinal rule of skiing.....never ski in the rain....
Gore snow report for today has only 20 trails listed as open

Sure glad I went on Friday!

Rained hard yesterday.  Visible compression of snow this morning, but as of 5:30 when we left Johnsburg there was a good 2" of fresh cover on the ground.

How's the AE 2 doing?  Haven't ridden her in weeks. Or the gondo for that matter.

They both operated today and I didn't see any problems. Sundays ice event hurt the mt. and yesterdays snow all blew away. Wish I had better news but it is very hard and fast. Glades are iced over.

I am curious too. Did Gore really only get 8 inches?  Anyone been stepping into the trees?

They got 4" of very light snow. Uncas was actually nice getting down to SB. The summit was glorious for the first few runs but was dust over crust for most trails. Tried the Chatiemac glades but they were just a bit too icy underneath to do anything.

Worked over to Burnt Ridge around 10:30 just as they opened. First run down Sagamore was untracked goodness. Decided to test out Boreas Glades and boy was it worth it. With the 4" plus the wind blown snow from Monday it was skiing like 6-8 inches. Wasn't too icy underneath and you could get an edge most times. Boreas x3 and Barkeater x2 and by 12:30 I was smoked. Did I mention bluebird day with no wind? Not a bad Thursday.

Burnt Ridge is the main thing I am after, pretty much all the time now.  Think it will hold up?

All the lower glades skied great. Never made it up top, super pow and very few skiers!

Anybody know why 90 percent of the glades are not marked with an open check mark on Saturdays report?

We ducked the rope on Tahawus Thursday. It looked great but it was dust on crust from hell. I’m thinking patrol is concerned about ice damage from Monday or Tuesday.

Yeah all glades I skied on Thursday were poached (breakin the law, breakin the law) and I can see how most were dust over crust. Like I said, the glades off Sagamore were less crusty and later in the morning the snow felt a bit heavier with the rising temps and sunlight so you could get an edge most times. I certainly would not have qualified them as dangerous, and most mountains would have had them open.

Curious how they'd ski tomorrow after even warmer temps today...maybe the light snow condensed a bit to soften the base? Who knows, but Gore as we all know is very conservative in regards to dropping ropes.

Gore report is saying 97% open with primary surface packed powder......can anyone who skied yesterday provide some detail or confirmation on actual conditions?

This post was updated on .

great day of skiing with BRLKED

Natural surfaces were soft – 8 inches - on top of an icy base. It wasn't exactly bonded but it did have some adhesion.

I can't explain it, but it was really fun.

Nice!  Glad it’s good.  I know what you mean, it’s a little funky out there in the ADK woods, but good!

Today was good enough to come back and do it again tomorrow  Lower angle woods are much better than steeper.  Evil lurks below that soft topping.  I couldn't plant my pole at times and they just shot back at me.  Great base though

Always find it interesting to hear the perspectives of other skiers. Sometimes it seems like we were skiing two different resorts. Icey was the key term for the base. I didn't find any bonding.
