A little birdie told me lift 4 is now experiencing mechanical failure, not whining, just saying. Man, the combo of staff that can't make it to work and old equipment sure isn't a good combination.
Did they say what was the problem?

I remember having to climb those towers and check the switches. Those switches seem to be one of the biggest culprits with that lift.

A friend of mine who skied a couple days ago said that chair 4 was much louder than usual.

They really need to start replacing the lifts, and not with Windham's trash.

Has the Windham lift been problematic?

They haven’t installed it yet due to delays with permits and engineering designs. The towers are laying next to the alpha slope for now. The lift will likely be installed this summer.

I’m just not a fan of installing a used lift, as they did that previously, and had nothing but problems.

According to the website, both chairs 4 & 5 are supposed to run today so they must have figured something out. I heard earlier this week that chair 2 may not run all season. Apparently it lacks certification. I think I will head up for a couple of hours and check things out.

That's not too surprising about 2. That thing was a 100 years old when they put it in a 100 years ago....LOL

When they do replace that chair I'll be buying one of the chairs. As you know we've had a bunch of laughs on the yellow chair.

If you don’t mind, I would appreciate an dispassionate  conditions update if you have a minute later. I might bring the boys up on Sunday.

Re: Greek Peak Conditions

Rumors aside, nobody on lift staff has told us there is any problem with ch 2. Lack of snow on caster and pollex has been the obvious problem, as it was the last area where snow makers got to this year. We in ski school love these trails for teaching, we are not happy they are not available at all. We haven't even been able to access the lower portions of these trails. I will ask around this weekend about chair 2.

FYI chair 2 was new in 1963, and reengineered about 20 years ago to expand teaching area and lessen crowding at the base. Upon installation it was longest in state. 5200 feet, not quite a mile. It's been a reliable workhorse. Because of its length it will cost a fortune to replace.....which reminds me:

How do make a small fortune running a ski area?

Start with a larger fortune.

Used to work for a guy that said that about the horse business:

How do you make a million dollars in the horse business?

Start with two million and know when to quit.

Yes, chair two was purchased brand new from Italy. Al Kryger tells the story that the installation instructions were written in Italian. He was charged with installing it, including bolting all the towers together.

Camp, the chairs on lift two are not the original yellow ones, with the hooks that you could hang your ski poles from. They purchased some used galvanized chairs a number of years ago to replace the yellow ones.

I did see them working on the chair a number of weeks ago. They were up on one of the lower towers, so I can't imagine that they would have put any effort into it if they aren't planning to run it.

Yep, we were all ready to head to GP this afternoon, but it looks like Vermont again this weekend. This weather is getting to be a PITA.
