Re: Greek Peak Conditions

Lifts have a number of safety features if rollbacks occur, including a manual break and a drop dog. However, the lift ops need to know how to use these, and move quickly to do so.

I've been evacuated off quite a few lifts over the years, including 5 and 1 at GP.

The bottom line is that the lifts at GP are beyond their prime, and a lift replacement plan needs to be set in place.

I rode up the other day with a guy who was evacuated. He said it was his first time being evacuated in 45 years of skiing. He was very positive about it.  He said they pulled all the professionals off the mountain to assist: ski patrol, ski school and adaptive were all there. They formed teams and had people down quickly. He was riding with a guy from adaptive, who was immediately involved in helping others be evacuated as soon as he was on the ground.

Yeah, it sucks that people had to be evacuated. Yeah, the prospect of rollback is terrifying.

But... What are you going to do? Not ski seems to be your only choice.

I have a theory that humans are stupid. Most mornings, I get on a 1000 pound critter with a mind of his own.  One of my other favorite things to do is strap a couple of boards to my feet and go down a slippery hill.  These crazy, stupid things make me happy.  I guess that you take your chances. I have titanium in my back to prove it.

You could be toast going to work or the mall.  I think I will continue to take my chances riding a 1000 pound critter and strapping board to my feet to go down a hill over being taken out at a mall or at work, which would be really annoying.

YMMV

You're Camp's mom, right? Good luck parking at 5, I hope they actually load at the scheduled time. I think I'm headed to Snow Ridge, looks like they're finally getting some LES love. Even Erie is producing snow, this shouldn't be possible this time of year, it should be frozen over.

Easy there, young whippersnapper.  Since I am older than dirt, I have had no issue getting up early enough to lift 5 on Spartan day.  I think that they have even had it running earlier than 9:30.

They have had Spartan day posted on the conditions website for a while.

Shit, I thought it was this weekend. Now I'll have to come up with another avoidance plan.

What year was that? I don't know if it's ever opened on schedule this year.

I am pretty sure that last year I was there by 9, based on some inside Intel from this board. The parking lot was already filling up, and they had people directing us where to park.

Chair 5 must hate you. I would take it personally. The few times I have parked there this year, it has been running when I got there, which is right around 9:30 if I am sking there.

And chair 2 was listed on the report as open today, but never did.  Hopefully chair 5 can stay running by the time the Spartans get here. Does anyone know if they needed a permit to change out the chairs on 5?

This thread gets curiouser and curiouser... could you elaborate on the reason for this question?

Just wondering if it was reviewed by an engineer.  Curious to know the weight difference between the original chairs and the new ones.

How did you know the weight down to the hundredths in less than 7 minutes???  Again, you must be an employee.

I’m going somewhere the  lifts don’t constantly break down.

I completely made it up just to see what you would say.

I'm guessing by all your comments  as of late that you're now a pass holder?

I'll try and hook up with you a Trax if you do. My weekend is kinda screwy this weekend.

Skiing won't be all that good. But you already know that.

Well you get on a chair that’s listed as open on the snow report and you get to the top without it stopping.  Unlike Greek where they say a chair is open even though it’s not.
