Didn’t plan accordingly and got caught up in too much beer and music, staying local this weekend. Planning on being there in two weeks, hopefully Ellie baby holds on

I am not sure that anybody missed much today. I left after five runs. They were just grooming Iliad when I got there at 9:45. I was super excited... On the ride up, it looked rough and sounded hard.
I normally don't take a warm up run, but I did, thankfully. Karyatis to Kristy's was good. My next run was Karyatis to Stoic. Stoic was super hard, uneven and you had to be very careful where you were going because the grooming was uneven. As in pot holes and watch where you are going, for sure. The highlight of the day was watching a ski instructor take a young kid up and around some of the "features" on the left side of the hill on Karyatis. He called one of the jumps a "whoop-de-do". People like that will create ski addicts. :) I hope that other people had a better day than I did. Also, what's up with the ridge on the bunny slop? (Yes, I skied there.) Are the working on putting in a half pipe? WP |
I have to agree, WP. We haven’t skied Greek Peak in a couple of weeks, but we just weren’t feeling it today. The texture of the primary surface was a mish-mosh. Hopefully things will be a little nicer after another round of grooming tonight, assuming they take time to groom and don’t push the cats at 100%.
We actually are pondering not purchasing season passes next year at Greek Peak, although I’m not sure that it makes a whole lot of sense to own a home in the area, and not ski there. |
I don’t know about that ridge on bunny slope but the dam thing about killed me last night. It was right a dusk and was turning fairly hard and went over it, ended up skiing backwards to save a bad wreck. Never seen it.
Skiing could of been better last night but can’t complain as they were blowing all over. Sunday should be better, I find man made snow grooms out much better after a couple of days. Gonna try to get out in the morning for some turns. I think they have done ok this year with the shit weather we’ve had. The place has something for everyone and if I lived there no doubt I’d have a pass. |
I’m sure next weekend will be better. Oh wait, odessy and Olympian will be closed and you’ll have to pay to park.

Quit whining...bitch. Bend over and take it like a homer. |

This is going to be the 4th year for Spartan holding there only Winter Race, Mountain based in the United States. As well as it was the first in the World. Besides for the off site parking which is only at TC3 this year, Greek employees have absolutely nothing to do with the setup or tear down of anything Spartan related. All of the obstacles, registration area, vendors, tents, tables and chairs are supplied Spartan. As for dismantle of the course, runners pay huge bucks to participate in the Hurricane heat which is about a 12 hour endurance experience. Each runner is instructed before arrival to show up with a certain tool, backpack and head lamp. Through the night, these runners disassemble every obstacle and prepare it for shipping, if heavy equipment isn't needed. The only resources that Greek provides is the pushing out a little bit of snow, the adventure center for their "home base and fuel fill ups for their machines and equipment that Spartan provides as well. Spartan is a well oiled machine with numerous employees and volunteers to put on an event this magnitude. What employees does Greek devote to hosting this race, which would be outside their realm of everyday responsibilities? I believe that You have been misinformed.

Firm and fast with a couple inches of fluff on top was what was to be had this AM. Skied for a while then jumped on the sled. Good to meet you and your boy Browski.
Hopefully next time we can make a few turns |
Absolutely. I’m glad you got some runs in. Greek skied really nice today. We spent a lot of time in those low angle trees under chair 2.

Nice conditions today. Chair 4 was down all day - we were told it might be back up tomorrow. Plus it appears a snowcat broke down near the top of the Alpha slope and they just put some orange fencing around it.
They had a shuttle running to get to Chair 5. Or you could walk over from Pollux but who would do that? Nice skiing at Chair 5 because almost nobody was there. Greek needs to do something about their lifts. The quad became a complete clusterF around 12:30ish - rode it and it stopped about six times in one ride. Got to the bottom and they were getting ready to open 1 as a huge line developed at the quad. We left then as did some others. I truly don't know why that quad stops so often - maybe the off ramp? |

Dude, it sucks that 4 broke down today. Did you guys ever make it over to 5?
Yeah, I'm pretty stoked to be back on skis. Feels good to have that quad burn again. |
Yeah, we rode the shuttle over. It was nice over there. No crowds or lines at all, like Billy said. Also, I stood on the lunchtime line at the quad and, while I understand the frustration, it wasn’t all that bad in the grand scheme of things- maybe 5-7 minutes. there was a liftie putting fours together but a lot of skiers were making it hard for him. On one run, he put two pairs of teenagers together in front of me and one of them just held back to get a chair to themselves. Next run, I was put together with 2 beginners and a racer. One of the beginners skied out late and got hit in the back of the leg. She wasn’t knocked down but she screamed which caused the liftie to hit the stop button (understandably). And for some reason the racer that was supposed to be on with us had held back and made the next chair a single. So that was one stop and four partial chairs that the mountain was blameless for by my estimation. Junior did a couple solo runs right after me while his little brother was taking his time eating and he agreed it was only about five minutes.

Brownski - yep I forgot to give credit to them for having a person out helping the loading. Overall that helped a lot. For some reason though that chair just stops SO much. I have to believe it may have to do with the off-ramp that's a bit steep for beginners and can get icy. I didn't see people having too much trouble loading, but as I said our last ride up stopped about six times. It's not even just the waiting at the bottom - it's knowing it will stop several times, often for several minutes at a time, on each ride up.
Camp - I think 4 never even opened today - it must have broke down yesterday. |
Yeah, 4 never opened. I was watching for it. I think chair 2 is my favorite though.

I rode chair 1a single today when guy was making sure each chair was full. He put me with 3 people and the one guy said I don’t go 4. I laughed it off and told him he does now, he replied I ain’t going then. Kind of taken back I told him to go ahead, the lifty was taken back too. I was left hanging there so he told me to just go.
Conditions were good a little on the slow side. With 4 being closed I did laps on 2 and ran the gates on Christy 4 times. |

If by ridge, you mean the low half pipe feature on skiers left of Alpha, it is a teaching tool that we use to help beginners progress from basic snowplow pizza turns to parallel turns. It's part of the Terrain Based Learning (TBL) program the ski school uses. It actually works well for this. If I can get back on the slope this year I can show anyone how it's supposed to be used.
