Actually, I live further "downstate" than you. Unlike you, however, I'm not a douche, nor am I cranky.

I shouldn't, but…..
A "douche"? Really? Am I suddenly back in high school?

"Sorry. Doublewide?" So was that. |
Would you guys all stop it. This thread is so far off the rails its embarassing. Clearly this topic will be a hotly debated one but this is not a debate its high school stupidity with a side of bullying thrown in - no check that Junior High.
Is this what we want a new reader to stumble upon and think they will come back. This is a good discussion worthy topic lets lets all keep everyone hands to themselves and stop the name calling. Yesh - all of you grow up.

I spoke to a guy who is a member of a snowmobile forum and lurks here. His comment to me was NYSB forums were more interesting to him because they presented a more diverse range of opinions and povs.
If true, it makes sense that there'd be conflict. Somebody (and it might have been HPD) once said "the more you agree with me the smarter you are" or something similar. There are so many VT ski blogs but only a handful of decent ones in NY. Some percentage of people looking for NY Ski info end up here. Is NY a cool place to ski? I believe it. I'm with Coach. I'd like to see us represent.

On Topic: You have to have a govt agency running Whiteface, Gore and Bell. It's state land. Because it's state land it will never be developed the way a private resort would be. These mountains have to be subsidized to maintain infrastructure. They will never pull in enough gate to replace a lift and groomer every five years. That's not criticism it's reality.
What was the operating loss? I didn't even read the article. I bet no matter what it is, it's a reasonable amount to pay for the commerce skiing creates.

Isn't this a less confrontational version of what Benny said? |

If this place was limited to people posting gratuitous technique tips (which I find annoying and could care less about), trip reports (which are nearly universally boring) or equipment reviews (which are inherently subjective and therefore almost completely useless. Plus, who cares?) it would completely suck.
There are two different cultures in skiing: The stick-up-your-ass, PSIA one that values mindless uniformity and military type discipline and the rough-and-tumble, irreverent one that only cares about having fun and isn't afraid to offend a few PSIA types in the process. Pick one. |
I'll take the fun, fun, fun category for $1000 please, Alex

TJ is correct. Here is Aussie's signature: I sense that signature is a little tongue in cheek. I wasn't taking a shot at Aussie (or HPD). Let's face it at some level that is how we all think. Sorry for the confusion HPD, carry on.

No it isn't. And it's also inaccurate. Whiteface and Gore do regularly turn profits but the other venues consistently hemorrhage. Hence the overall loss. And the Benny fellow made a blanket insult that everyone upstate is poor, lives in trailer parks and depends on his 138K tax revenue plus his trust fund annuities to survive. He then also claimed it was ok that gov’t fixed infrastructure like bridges in the city because they change tolls and he gets laid at the Jersey shore. (I do not believe that for a minute). So no, it is not even close to Penny’s statement.
