How about it Harvey, what say your sources about tomorrow?

Definitely Silver status
Hearing there are concerns about the snow pack with 2 persistent crust layers
Chances are it’s going to open intermittently at silver status so it gets ski cut
I watched a group ski from the hwy today.  They inched their way Down.  My take is the skiing will be somewhere on the spectrum of not much fun to you might blow your knees out crust.  Lighter skiers will break the top layer but if you are heavier you will likely break thru both layers which would seriously suck
I had my avy gear there today but I’m going to pass and let others ski cut it Sunday
If we get it cut up then snow wed/Thursday then it could be pretty good back on Silver on Friday or  Saturday

"Unfortunately I don't think so. At this point we will need Slide 1 to soften up. It is very flat and a sheet of ice which is making the traverse to the other slides too risky right now.

Who knows though if sun hits it for couple hours we may be all set."

Welp, this thread made me do it.  I'll have it in my car should the opportunity ever arise.  And no - I have absolutely NO IDEA how to use it.

Find an Avi 1 course, the Mountaineer in Keene Valley usually knows where they are held. If you invested $600 you might as well. It's interesting and informative. That way next year you WILL know how to use it.

I’m actually more interested in taking Avi 1 then in buying a beacon. It’s pretty unlikely I’ll time a WF trip right often enough to justify it for that purpose.

I'm at Gore a lot and I honestly haven't been to WF in a few years, but if the Slides are open I'll at least have the option now to drive up for a day.  Kleetus and I were talking about heading up there during Pres Day weekend should they be open but neither of us had the gear.

WF is definitely worth a day trip (which for me is 3 hours each way) when the Slides are open.

I day tripped it today from JT's area. Will do it again. Softened up nicely as the day went along. Skyward was good in the afternoon. Get it while you can.

Yesterday was great.  Everything that should have been groomed was, including Lower Mac.  Did a couple of laps on Cloudspin, probably the run of the day.  Maintenance was done last summer, but snow seemed to stay.  Hoyt's was great, too.

I don't recall from past years, but I'm thinking the Sunday after President's Day has got to be one of the better days of the year.  Out-of-towners going home, non-holiday still blacked out and as much terrain open as you're likely to find.

I was told from a couple of sources that the Slides weren't very good.  Specifically, that Slide 1 was "treacherous."

Just saw on FB that there was a slide on WF. Anybody know anything? Outside the boundary or one of “The Slides” slides?
