Same here. I'm going to do my damnedest to get one of those when the time comes to replace those. It will be quite the project but I want to put one up, with a chair, in my yard.

Not at all. I own a home there, which I’d like to not see become worthless if the place failed. The place also employs some really good people, and it would be heartbreaking to see them lose their jobs.

Listen, I’m saying that I had the ultimate plan to turn the place around. If I did, I would have bid on it. Instead, I moved on to projects that I am much more knowledgeable and comfortable with.

RJ, my man. I believe you're a smart a guy and good at whatever it is you do. I also believe your're successful at whatever it is you do. You have 2 ski houses, one at GP and the other The King of the East and that doesn't happen by accident. Good for you.
What I don't understand is why you choose to troll John and all the management at GP. Do you get off on it? It's so odd to me. What I'm saying is if the situation were reversed do you think John and Marc would be on here poking at you like you do to them? I sincerely don't think so. I can't see them stooping to your level, they too are very successful businessmen.

I guess he trolling the hill because it seems dangerous to the customers.
I don't hear about stuff going on at other hills this relatively bad at other hills like Greek.
I only want success for all ski hill business not bad decisions or ignored stuff falling apart that could seriously kill or hurt public
That keeps going on what I see here

Probably none of my business, and Camp feel free to say so.

I have a theory:

Camp is a homer. He likes Greek Peak. It's one of the fun things in his life.

John and company bought GP and saved it. You may not agree with how they run the place, but they are the guys who did it.

Camp supports the owners of his mountain. His interests and theirs are, to some extent, aligned.

If RJ bought GP Camp would support him too.

You nailed it

I'm a complete homer and love having GP in my backyard. I'm not the only one who feels that way either, we virgil valley boys are a close knit group. I just happen to be the only one on here. Aren't you guys lucky

As long as the ski side is a priority whomever owns/runs GP will have my full support. In no way does that mean I personally have to agree with everything they do.

Winter is just a small part of our GP life.

I understand that.
It's nice place for sure
U all lucky for nice hill close to Binghamton
I want it to succeed to
I personally probably will not ski there to much into they fix stuff that dangerous to public
Yes it can happen and it does happen chair lift swing ing off on average maybe once every few years
Just seems to me it happens a lot at Greek more than it should don't want family or anyone in dangerous that don't need if can be fixed or replaced.

Re: Greek Peak Conditions

Broken lifts have their upside. Chair 4 still down, awaiting parts. Kudos to Greek for spinning 5 on a weekday despite needing to take a shuttle bus to access it. I think the lifties must have been pretty bored over there. Me, Big D, two other guys, and two patrollers were the only ones skiing it. Got first tracks on lower Arcadian Gate at around two o'clock. Fresh cream cheese groomed on Mars till four.

They also groomed Trojan despite having access to only the lower portion via Poseidon, and middle Pollux. They must've been hopeful of getting 4 going. Hit that for my last two runs. Considered hiking up Marathon to the service road and cutting over to Trojan there, but passed. Saw one set of tracks on that portion, so someone else must've done that.

Looks like the natural trails and woods are done for the year barring a late season dump. The March sun is getting pretty intense, and it's supposed to be 60 on Monday. On the upside, the front side is still in the sun in the afternoon instead of the usual midwinter shadows. So glad I blew the afternoon off work to run up to GP. No rollbacks on 5...today.

You nailed it, Harvey!

Other entities did bid on the place, including firms out of Utah, Canada, and PA. I don't recall the exact numbers, but the bankruptcy judge awarded the bid to John and Marc because they were locals (Elmira). They were not the top bidder, which was interesting. The existing owners scraped together $20M, but that was not an option. The entire saga caught the attention of the Wall Street Journal, as Chuck Schumer got involved, and the FDIC actually pumped $1.5M into the place during the bankruptcy process, which is unheard of. Of course, Schumer oversees the Finance Committee, which may have helped.

The whole process was rather fascinating--from Tennessee Financial being seized to the role of the FDIC more or less operating a ski area for a period of time.

On a different note, does anyone know what the current status is of chair 4? My understanding is that it is still down. I called last evening, and was told that they hope to have it up and running later today. If not, they will NOT be running a shuttle bus on Saturday to chair 5. That could create a bit of a mess with only chairs 1-3 operating.

I'm going to call again around noon, but may head to VT if the chair is not back in business for the weekend.

They're allowing GP passholders to ski Toggenburg on Saturday with their GP pass. I don't know why, if they wanted to ski Toggenburg they should've purchased a Greekenburg pass. How f'n generous of Greek to give their passholders access to something they didn't pay for.

Don't they allow Togg passholders to ski Greek Peak at the beginning of the year prior to Togg opening? But, I totally understand your point, if too many Greek Peak passholders take advantage of the offer, it will inundate Togg.

Could you post an article showing where Marc and John were not the highest bidder? Every article I've read states that they were. If the old owners were able to come up with $20M why didn't they pay their bills?

Every bill, including their taxes, were paid up to date, up until the filing. At that point, they were advised to only fund their payroll. After their filing, a loan was not an option, which is why the $1.5M infusion by the FDIC. They did not want to shudder the place over the summer and fall, as funds were needed for snow making. Usually the owners tapped their line of credit in the fall to kick off snow making, but that was no longer an option.

I'm being sarcastic, it was aimed at Camp. But yes, if I paid for a Togg only pass I wouldn't be happy if it were swamped with GPer's on Saturday. They are supposed to get a little snow, but my God, it's flat as a pancake.
